Mayor Richard Parker highlighted the region’s strengths:
"This is a great show of faith by the Government in our regions to deliver the growth and high-quality jobs the country needs. The West Midlands is a hotbed of innovation and business talent ready to support the Government’s mission for growth."
Parker pointed to ongoing initiatives, such as plans for a giga-factory and the establishment of three Investment Zones, as proof of the region’s progress in creating thousands of jobs and preparing for the industries of the future.
"With this new Strategic Partnership, the West Midlands will become one of the best places to do business, fostering an economy that creates real opportunities and benefits for everyone in our communities," he added.
Chancellor Highlights Local Leadership
Chancellor Rachel Reeves emphasised the importance of empowering local leaders with the resources and authority to drive growth:
"In our mission for growth, it’s critical that we are growing every region’s local economy. That’s why we are doing things differently. Those with local knowledge and skin in the game are best placed to know what their area needs. Our transformative reforms will connect local leaders with investment opportunities, bringing wealth and jobs to their communities."
The reforms include a new approach to the National Wealth Fund and the Office for Investment, which will work directly with regional leaders on projects tailored to their areas.
A Promising Future for the West Midlands
This pilot scheme aims to further establish the West Midlands as a leader in advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and green technology, building on its reputation as a hub of innovation and business excellence.
As part of the Strategic Partnership, the region will gain access to enhanced tools and support, making it even more attractive to investors and businesses looking to contribute to its long-term growth.
