Atos has announced the recruitment of 30 apprentices at its newly established Sovereign Delivery Centre located at Birmingham Business Park in Solihull. The investment strengthens regional tech talent development while expanding the company’s UK-based AI and digital infrastructure capabilities.

The centre is being transformed into a state-of-the-art, sustainably built facility. Backed by more than 30 years of engineering expertise, it will deliver AI-enabled sovereign services designed for public sector organisations, defence, and critical national infrastructure. The hub will focus on UK-based IT delivery, automation, secure data hosting, and resilience, areas experiencing growing national demand.

Hands-On AI and Digital Skills Training

Working with Next Tech Girls, Atos is recruiting IT Service Desk Apprentices to support clients operating across the UK. Apprentices will take on First Line Support Desk roles, handling incident logging, troubleshooting, escalation processes and customer service responsibilities.

Participants will spend 20% of their time completing a Level 3 qualification delivered by Solihull College & University Centre, while gaining practical workplace experience.

Unlike traditional programmes focused on a single discipline, the apprenticeship offers exposure to artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics and digital services. The aim is to equip recruits with adaptable, future-ready skills that evolve alongside AI technologies.

Michael Herron, Head of Atos UK&I, said the initiative reflects the need for both technical expertise and human-centred skills such as curiosity, creativity and experimentation in an AI-driven workplace.

Boost for Solihull’s Digital Economy

Solihull College & University Centre will provide classroom-based training as part of the partnership. Nancy Buckley, Vice Principal for Business Growth, Skills and Partnerships, said the programme will give learners direct access to advanced technologies and real-world challenges from day one.

Solihull Council has also welcomed the investment. Councillor Heather Delaney, Cabinet Member for Economy, Business & Skills, highlighted the importance of combining structured learning with practical experience to help young people build sustainable careers in a fast-changing digital economy.

The new Sovereign Delivery Centre further positions Birmingham and Solihull as emerging hubs for AI innovation and sovereign digital services, while creating long-term opportunities for the next generation of UK tech professionals.
